The Different Ways of Enjoying Parry Sound Attractions

The town of Parry Sound lies on the south of Ontario, Canada where the scars of the economic decline brought about by the accidental razing of the nearby town of Depot Harbour and the aftermath of World War II are barely visible. The place is now a bustling metropolis thriving on its tourism industry fueled by the Parry Sound attractions all year round. Proof of the lure of Parry Sound is in the artworks of Tom Thomson (1877-1917) and the Group of Seven artists.

The Sound Dragon Boat Festival is just one of the many Parry Sound attractions. The boat festival along the pure and clean Georgian Bay draws spectators from all over the world. Georgian Bay is the largest freshwater archipelago in the world. People go there to enjoy live entertainment, dragon boat races, lively beach parties and buy the crafts displayed in the many booths. Year-round, Georgian Bay has proven to be one of the irresistible Parry Sound attractions.

The Parry Sound golf course is picturesque as well as challenging. Tee off times can be reserved in advance. In the west, the Parry Sound District Museum at the 96 foot observation tower is another of the interesting Parry Sound attractions. This is open Thursdays and Saturdays. Families will enjoy the sights overlooking the sound, and will be amazed at the vast collection of artifacts displayed in the museum.

Sightseeing is not complete until you see more of Parry Sound attractions. Get a boat cruise along the channels of the 30,000 islands of Georgian Bay. In Depot Harbor, one can relive the ghastly experience of the accident fire that gutted the entire town. The remains are all there to be seen. In Market Square, visitors can visit the Fire Hall where the original bell sounded the nightly curfews during World War II. During summer, the Fire Hall is open to the public.

There are other activities for those who want water sports like kayaking and canoeing. Art and music lovers have the Artemis Gallery or Loon Studios for fun filled afternoons. There are still more of Parry Sound attractions in store for you.
